About Lisa
Hi, I’m Lisa Evans, founder and facilitator of Beach Dance. I am also a passionate advocate for speaking one’s truth, being kind, and playing a lot. I think there are four things most people want out of life; to feel valued, to feel loved, to feel free, and to be remembered. I believe creative self-expression, imagination and improvisation are key ways to tap into and let loose one’s true nature and spirit. I envision a world where love of self and others, honesty and integrity, and peace and joy are common daily experiences not once-in-awhile events. I know life is short and more often than not, is exactly what we choose it to be.
Twelve years ago when I was first introduced to ecstatic dance, I had no idea how it would change my life and impact the lives of others. I’d always loved to dance, but had never taken any lessons nor made it a habitual practice. The more I danced, the better I felt and it soon became something I was whole-heartedly interested in and fascinated by. It was exciting to discover something about myself that had been there all along, but had never been fully explored.
I like to inspire people to move. And I especially love to see and hear what happens when people are moved by the experience of their own dance. As a facilitator, I provide the kind of guidance and support that’s encouraging, enthusiastic and entertaining. As a movement artist, I participate as deep and as wide as I facilitate. I am both teacher and student and we have much to learn from each other and our interactions. As a writer, I use words to ponder and provoke, compliment and criticize, and to understand myself a bit more while trying to make meaning out of pretty much everything.
I have recently moved to Maui from the Oregon coast with my husband and cat. Downsized and simplified, we moved for better weather and new adventures. I suspect living on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean will provide us plenty o’ sunshine and sweet surprises. As my craft and work swirls in new directions and unfurls in a different state, I’m excited about the unknown and the possibilities that exist in that place.
In the spirit of what’s next…may our dancing paths cross each other’s soon!
