Beach Dance Schedule Summer 2010
I’ve just recently returned from a two-week holiday in Nelson, New Zealand where it’s the middle of summer and the sun is shining beautifully. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the rain that’s currently throwing itself in buckets against my kitchen window reminds me it’s still, without-a-doubt wintertime and we’ve got awhile yet before warmer temperatures will grace this part of the world.
Normally that thought would make me pout and put me in a crappy weather-induced funk, but not today. Today I’m looking at the postcards (yep, that’s a photo of the front of them you see above) that arrived in the mail while I was gone and they’ve got me excited about what lies ahead just three months from now.
Season Three of Beach Dance begins Memorial Day Weekend and while that seems like it’s a far-off in-the-future date, the end of May will be here before we know it. I’m sure there are plenty of folks who are already making holiday plans to come to the beach and it’s my hope they’ll make Beach Dance a part of their Cannon Beach experience.
As a local resident in one of the most popular and beautiful towns along the northern Oregon coast, I can assure you that the hotels, retailers and restaurants have been making their plans well in advance of the summer season and my business is no exception. Were the weather warm and sunny year-round here, I’d have events every month. However, given that the Pacific Northwest’s climate tends to be cool and damp for six months out of the year (November-April) and most people enjoy dancing on the beach when it’s warm and dry, Beach Dance events are held during the months (April-October) when we’re most likely to see sunshine and warmer temperatures. I can hear most Oregonians laughing outloud right now. There’s a reason I said, “most likely”. We’ve danced in the rain before and I’m sure we’ll do it again a few times this summer, but I prefer to dance outdoors when the Weather Gods are tossing down more sunbeams.
All the public events are now listed on the calendar and are held on most Friday evenings and Saturday mornings throughout the summer. Private group events for special occasions such as bridal and wedding parties, birthdays, girls’ getaway weekends, and other personal celebrations are available and can be scheduled on various days and times in a variety of places other than Cannon Beach. If you know you’d already like to attend a Beach Dance event this summer, you can register now and reserve your place for that date. There are only fifteen spots available for each event and I have a sneaky (and wonderful) feeling they’re going to fill up well in advance this year.
So with just a littie more than three more months to go before the first event happens, the build-up to the beginning of Season Three starts now. Yippee!!!
