And then suddenly…it was September.
Even though there’s still another three weeks until Autumn is officially here on the calendar, the changing of the seasons is already well under way. The leaves are slowly, ever-so slowly beginning to change color. There’s a slight chill in the air that’s present in the morning and at a night that wasn’t there before. It’s not so much the shades of yellow, orange and red nor the cooler temps that have caught my attention. It’s the fading light. Every day the sun waits a bit longer to rise and sets into the ocean well before I want it to.
Here along the Oregon coast, our summer has been…well, let’s just say it hasn’t been as consistently warm and sunny as I would have liked it to, but it has been everything and more when it comes to Beach Dance. I’ve been doing a lot of dancing of late and not much writing, so my apologies to all those who participated in the August events and have been patiently waiting for the playlists of music to appear. Those will immediately follow below after a few more of my thoughts.
This is the second summer I have offered Beach Dance in Cannon Beach. With just five more events left this month, I have to admit I’m a bit melancholy knowing it will be awhile before the third season begins. My hope is to offer a few events in other warm places I’ll be traveling to in the coming months so stay tuned for further details about where and when Beach Dance will be happening during the fall and winter.
I have been extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised by who has shown up and what’s taken place on nature’s dance floor the past few months. Every event has been a unique and ecstatic experience. Every dance is different not only because of who’s there, but because of what each person brings with them to the dance. What I mean by that is each of us brings our own repetoire of stuff. We bring our beliefs about ourselves, our fears about what we can and cannot do, and our feelings about what’s going on in the world and in our lives. When we allow that stuff to move through us while we’re moving about the beach, it makes for a powerful and memorable experience. As a facilitator, it’s been my hope to create something that inspires and impacts people in a positive and profound way. I have been deeply moved by what I’ve seen and and heard expressed from all the dancers this summer. Thanks to all of you for helping to make this dream of mine come true.
As I mentioned earlier in this post, there are just FIVE EVENTS LEFT THIS MONTH! This is YOUR chance to dance perhaps like you’ve never danced before. This is YOUR chance to experience something that will make your body sweat, your mind still and your spirit soar. We’ll be dancing this Friday night and Saturday morning. We’ll be dancing Friday the 18th, Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th.
And then suddenly……it was September…and you found yourself dancing along the beach. Imagine that. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? I hope to see you sometime this month!
