Ponderings and Playlists from July 4th Weekend

I am still giggling with delight from this past weekend’s events. In addition to a few new folks experiencing Beach Dance for the first time, the warm weather held and we were treated to sunshine and blue skies on both days. Even though it’s gone coastal again (gray skies, cool breezes and occasional raindrops), it hasn’t dampened my good mood. Beach Dance tends to lift your spirits for an extended period of time. This is a very good thing given that summer doesn’t really begin along the Oregon coast until the end of July/early August.

We’re just about half-way through the summer season with ten events already held and twelve events remaining. There is still space available for this Saturday’s dance and for Friday, July 31.

If you live in the local area and you’ve been curious about it, what’cha waiting for? I know there are plenty of people in the town I live in who love to dance, but are chicken to try it out. If only I knew what they were so afraid of (I have some good guesses) perhaps I would know how to better invite them. If only they knew what they were missing…there are so many things, but honestly, it’s the perfect opportunity to overcome whatever fear one has. I always tell first-time beach dancers that if they start to feel self-conscious or get nervous when people walk on by, just close their eyes. Not only does this help get you back in your body, but it makes the people disappear instantly. Of course, that means you’ll also be missing out on seeing all the amazing scenery and wildlife that surrounds you (we were treated to bald eagle sightings this weekend) so don’t keep your eyes closed for too long!

Thank you to Jean, Jenni, Michael, Karlene, Jan, Tom, Terri, and Jeff for spending part of your holiday weekend dancing on the beach. A special shout-out to Jenni and Tom for being at both events and three hip-hip-hoorays to our out-of-state visitors; Jan from Indiana, Karlene from the Seattle area, and Tom from Bainbridge Island. Last, but certainly not least, a BIG thank you to Michael Paige for taking photos once again at Friday night’s event. It’ll be a couple weeks before they’re ready for viewing (I’ll be sure to post a link!), but be prepared for some jaw-dropping beauty. The photo you see above is some of his latest creative beach-dancing magic. I am a lucky woman to know such a magnificent man.
